A Child Abuse Survivor- What I Want Others To Know

Kay ·
As I sit here thinking about what to write, i’m struck by the idea that some people might not know what goes on inside the mind of a child abuse adult survivor after years of healing. These are all what I deem as important questions to look at and ponder. So, the first thing I want to say about childhood abuse (this includes physical, emotional...

Sure wish my parents would have paid attention and listened to me all those years ago! If they had I wouldn't be the mess of a person I am now.

There are different kinds of child abuse: physical, sexual, and emotional. Neglect, which can be benign or deliberate, is also child abuse. If you think there might be a child that might be a victim of abuse, check your suspicions against the list below which are common...

Hi IWANTTOHELP , This is really appreciable. You are doing a great job. I think a proper awareness about physical and emotional abuse, after effects and tips to deal with such abuses would help people to handle such situations. It is hard to convince children about such abuses. Abuses will affect children in different ways. It has long term effects and that might spoil both the physical and mental health of the child. Recently I read an article on how emotional abuse affect the hearing...

Did You Know: Child Sexual Abuse and Prevention

le.petit. avocat ·
When I watch TV shows like Dr. Phil, Iyanla Fix My Life, and My 600lb Life, I noticed that sexual abuse during childhood or adolescence is a common theme in many of the featured stories. The shows highlight sexual abuse as the source of a current problem that causes the person to engage in reckless behavior as an adult. I can’t help but wonder if the abused person would still have had the same problems if the sexual abuse had been reported when it occurred. It doesn’t matter the culture,...

This is My Story, and My Plea

I hope this isn't against the rules. I am sharing my story here in hopes that other victims will help me get the word out. This is My Story, and My Plea Nutshell version: I've been raising my son in an abusive relationship since he was born. I've tried to divorce this man three times. I thought I was doing the right thing at first by trying to make a bad relationship work. Then I thought I was doing the right thing by staying so that I could protect my son from the terrible things his father...

Good luck to you and your sweet son. Some companies have legal services. You might ask your employer if your company will help. My other suggestion is that hosting international students can bring in a predictable $800.00 monthly. If I had a home, I would try that. In the meantime, the kids and I will read The Gift of Fear . Thank you for the suggestion. I'm in the same boat as you. The difference is that when I went for the restraining order against my emotionally-turned-physically abusive...

We're going to trial

SammiJ ·
I have known my abuser for around ten years now. He's always been physically violent, starting three months into the relationship. I was 17 and he was 21. I left multiple times and always ended up coming back. When our first daughter was nine months old I left him for what I thought was the final time. He ended up in jail for aggravated kidnapping or the girl he'd been cheating on me with. He was sentenced to five years and served four. When he got out on parole, I gave him another chance.

Domestic Violence in the Home: What Happens to Children?

Children are effected by domestic violence, whether noticed by parent's or not... Some say differently, arguing that the environment of the household, does not affect the result of the exposed child's wellbeing. However, studies show, that children exposed to households, harboring abusive behavior and relationships, are statistically more prone to mental health conditions, academic decline, and tendency to repeat abusive/violent behavior. Unbroken Angels and the Cycle of Abuse

Every 30 seconds a child is abused. In 1964 the United States began to pay closer attention to child abuse and neglect, thanks to President Nixon who signed the first Federal child protection legislation (CAPTA) which provides Federal assistance to states for the prevention, identification, and treatment programs for child abuse (childwelfare.gov). Since then, April has been recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention month. Despite the 53 years since the initiation of CAPTA, child abuse...
